Thrive

Thrive, the horticultural charity based in Beech Hill, Reading, first asked me to take some photographs of their gardens and beneficiaries for a brochure. A couple of black and white portraits of Colin and Donald were included in the contact sheets sent back to the client. 12 frames taken to capture 2 portraits turned into a bigger and humbling photographic project working with everyone at Thrive around the UK.

The aim of these portraits was to portray individuals who enjoy their garden and the inner strength that gardening provides them. For many it's an intimate part of life between themselves, their own world, and the earth that they care for.

Photographs from the project were published to celebrate 25 years of Thrive and exhibited in London, the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh and at Thrive's headquarters.
