Following my earlier blog posts about 5 tips on collecting photography prints, prior to the opening of Photo London, The Photographer's Gallery has a 5 week course, (Monday nights 18th April - 16th May), covering various aspects on collecting photography.
Join photography expert Zelda Cheatle on this exclusive 5-week course for anyone interested in collecting photography – from the vintage to the contemporary. Sessions will include a mix of lectures, practical handling and off-site visits. Topics covered are a brief history of photographs, building and managing a collection, an introduction to the art market, and the practical aspects of collecting, photographic processes, assessment of print conditions, as well as guidelines on handling, conservation and storage.
Week 1: an introduction to collecting
Week 2: photographs and conservation, handling session
Week 3: behind-the-scenes visit to a private gallery in London
Week 4: custom made session with our Print Sales team, special access to works
Week 5: visit to Auction Houses and preparation for visiting Photo London
This course culminates in a visit to the VIP Photo London opening (Wednesday 18 May) and a tour by the course tutor on Thursday 19 May. Please note: VIP passes are organised by The Photographers' Gallery.
