The Boulevard between the sentry box look-out on the left and the exit of Tunnel Harry, just shy of the tree line on the right. The distance of freedom. On the night of 24th March some 76 British and Allied prisoners of war climbed out of Tunnel Harry.
This 'Boulevard' was later the start of The Long March in January 1945...the final view of Stalag Luft III for the 10,000 plus prisoners of war filing past between the camp, over and beside the exit of Tunnel Harry in the bitter cold of winter.
This photograph is from the series, Stalag Luft III.
